Campus Safety

Free Online Personal Safety Course

As well as providing on-site training for colleges and university campuses etc. we also have a free online college campus safety courses aimed at young women either at or going to college/university. The course can be accessed by clicking here.

It is a startling fact that a woman attending college or university in the US is more likely to be sexually assaulted than one who is not; higher education for women in the US comes at a high cost. It is also worth noting that many victims of sexual assaults drop out of higher education, and don’t obtain the degree that they started studying. Personal safety may not be high on the list of things to consider when attending university however when presented with these statistics it should be.

Whilst we would always recommend physical self-defense training, when it comes to dealing with violent assaults, on its own it is rarely enough. Often, when you find yourself being assaulted, the shock, surprise and speed of the attack, can mean that an effective response is difficult to make. If you are able to identify the threat and danger as it develops, or avoid compromising situations in the first place, you will be better prepared to deal with a potential attack, should it materialize. This type of training is referred to as self-protection. It is the type of threat recognition and mitigation that professionals in the security industry use to predict, identify, prevent and avoid violence before it occurs.

The SEPS (Situation Effective Protection System) Campus Safety Program is a free online course, comprising of 6 modules (along with a foundational one), which looks at the types of threats and dangers young women attending college are likely to face, and how to avoid/mitigate them. Each module looks at a different aspect/component of personal safety, explaining what the dangers are, how to identify them and most importantly how to prevent and deal with them.

This resource is provided free by SEPS Academy and can be accessed by clicking here. The modules can be studied as individual units, in any order and look at things such as thefts on campus, sexual assaults, and mugging scenarios etc. You may also want to look at the SEPS Women’s Personal Safety Program, which is another free training course, which looks at broader aspects of women’s self-defense and personal safety. You can access this program by clicking here.
